As a local business owner, I recognise the Local Plan as a pivotal tool for economic growth in our area. The emphasis on mixed-use developments is particularly promising, as these spaces attract foot traffic that benefits shops and services like mine. Additionally, its plans for improved transport links will only enhance accessibility to the area, encouraging more visitors and potential customers. The plus side of incorporating local businesses into the consultation process is significant; we can share insights to better cater to community needs. This plan has the potential to reinvigorate our local economy, and I cautiously look forward to its implementation.

From my perspective as a retired teacher, I am impressed with how the Local Plan prioritises educational facilities and provisions for young people. It’s essential that future developments include schools and youth centres, thereby nurturing our upcoming generations. The focus on safe routes to schools and community engagement in educational initiatives is laudable. Ensuring young residents have access to high-quality educational opportunities will strengthen our community as a whole. In my opinion, a well-education populace leads to a stronger economy and a better quality of life for everyone involved.

Upon reviewing the Local Plan, it's apparent that it lacks sufficient engagement with local residents in its development. The process seemed rather opaque, and many community voices were excluded. Engaging with diverse populations to obtain feedback is crucial for understanding unique community needs. It also feels as if the prioritisation of development overruns the need for community input, leading to a disconnect between planners and residents. If these issues persist, the resulting developments may not serve the community effectively, perpetuating a cycle of dissatisfaction with planning processes.

The proposed Local Plan exhibits shortcomings in its approach to resilience against climate change. While it's essential to consider developments, we must also reflect on their environmental impact and how they could exacerbate existing issues like flooding or heatwaves. There are insufficient measures for climate resilience included, and this could jeopardise both new and existing communities. It’s critical that any future development integrates climate adaptation strategies to safeguard local residents and assets from potential natural disasters or environmental degradation.

After reviewing the Local Plan, I am deeply concerned that it fails to adequately balance residential and commercial growth. Community livelihood often depends on the vibrancy of local businesses, which are currently at risk due to an imbalance in the planning focus. There seems to be a predilection towards residential development, which could stifle the growth of local shops and services. A balanced approach is essential to foster a thriving economy alongside residential expansion. Without this consideration, the character of the community may shift unfavourably, leaving residents without adequate amenities.

As someone who treasures the historical character of our area, I am dismayed by the Local Plan’s apparent neglect of heritage preservation. The vision for future development should not bulldoze over our historical identity, which is intrinsic to community pride and cohesion. Careful consideration towards preserving heritage sites and integrating them into new developments is vital. A focus solely on modernisation disregards the value of our history and could result in the blight of our unique character. More imaginative approaches blending old with new would enhance rather than detract from the neighbourhood.

With the recent changes to the NPPF perhaps this plan should be restarted so that proper consideration of raised housing numbers can be included.
