The Sustainability Appraisal's emphasis on environmental metrics alone risks sidelining crucial social considerations that directly affect local residents' quality of life. While supporting environmental initiatives is vital, I am worried that without equal attention to neighbourhood-level issues—such as housing affordability, accessibility to services, and social infrastructure—the plan could exacerbate existing inequalities. It is imperative that sustainable development incorporates a more comprehensive understanding of what contributes to a healthy, vibrant community. By doing so, we can create a Local Plan that not only protects our environment but also supports the well-being of all its citizens.
