Scepticism regarding the new policies map stems from a lack of coherent strategies for growth areas and inadequate environmental assessments. The exclusively digital format excludes many residents. A strong call is made for more meaningful community engagement to address ethical concerns surrounding development decisions.
The more I delve into the newly introduced policies map, the more sceptical I become about its implications for our community’s future. A major issue lies within the lack of coherence in how growth areas are selected, which appear devoid of a clear strategy that considers the socio-economic landscape we currently inhabit. I remain particularly concerned about the environmental repercussions these developments could entail, and the absence of thorough ecological assessments undermines the credibility of this map. The digital-only format could leave many residents bewildered, particularly older individuals, who often find such technologies intimidating and inaccessible. Traditional maps would afford everyone the chance to engage with the plans meaningfully.
Moreover, the hurried nature of the map’s creation prompts a sense of concern that the council is prioritising development over genuine community feedback and inclusion. The concerns raised seem to be dismissed rather hastily in favour of a growth agenda without much regard for communal impacts. We should be engaging in meaningful conversations about the ethical consequences of such development decisions, rather than accepting them unquestioningly.
I advocate for a revisitation of how this policy map was developed to better reflect collective community interests.
I did not speak up about these issues sooner as I thought there would be comprehensive dialogues before any final decisions were made, presuming my concerns would be addressed alongside others.
It's crucial for me to take part in the oral hearing so I can express the need for ethical considerations at the forefront of our community's development plans.
