I feel compelled to speak against the current proposal focused on tree-lined streets and natural features. There’s an underlying assumption that increasing greenery directly correlates with climate action, which oversimplifies the complexity of the climate crisis. We ought to ask ourselves if such measures will genuinely help with carbon capture or simply serve as visual embellishments that lack real impact. Instead, I believe our resources would be better allocated towards renewable energy solutions such as solar panels, energy-efficient buildings, and improved recycling programmes. A rethink of this approach is necessary to achieve true sustainability instead of token gestures that may not yield tangible results.
